[February 26, 2023](Comprehensive report by Epoch Times reporter Xia Yu) As high inflation continues, many people go to Costco (Costco), Sam’s Club (Sam’s Club) and other large warehouse chains to buy food and household goods in bulk to reduce the cost of living.Although Costco is known for selling great value for money, there are also some items that are sold at prices that are not.affordablechoose.
If you’re shopping for non-perishable groceries, throwing a party, or have a big family, Costco is a great place to shop. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you should buy everything there, and buying in bulk isn’t always the bestaffordableof. In fact, some items may be cheaper at your local neighborhood supermarket than at Costco.
On the other hand, even if a discount on any particular commodity looks too good to be true, it’s important for savvy shoppers to consider whether you’ll be able to consume what you’ve purchased by the due date .
To help consumers deal with the rising cost of living, here are 12 items that might be a little pricey to buy at Costco.
1. Avocado (Avocado)
A common complaint from Costco customers is that their avocados are hard to eat before they rot.
It may be wiser to buy discounted avocados at your local supermarket and then pick some yourself that meet the desired ripeness.
Still, if you’re planning on making a big tub of guacamole, Costco’s $6.66 bag of six avocados might be worth it.

2. Baked goods
Sure, buying two bags of bagels for under $10 seems like a good idea, but unless you’re sharing breakfast with a lot of people, for consumers with small families, the bagels may go bad before they’re finished up.
The same goes for many other products that Costco bakeries offer.
So, if you’re throwing a party, Costco has great deals. Otherwise, it’s more affordable to buy at your local supermarket or bakery.

3. Shredded cheese (Shredded cheese)
Costco sells big bags of shredded cheese at seemingly cheap prices — like two 2.5-pound bags of Mexican-style blend shredded cheese for $19. But dairy products don’t have a very long shelf life.

4. Diapers
Parents with young children have to buy a lot of diapers, so buying in bulk may seem like a no-brainer. But Costco may not be the store offering the best prices.
Costco members can buy 192 size 1 Kirkland diapers for less than $40, while Target is offering the same number of Up & Up diapers for less than $27.
To shop savvy, parents may have to shop around.

5. Pasta
Costco does sell pasta at great prices, like a four-pack of two-pound Barilla penne for less than $12.
But keep in mind that neighborhood supermarkets sometimes sell a pound box of pasta for less than a dollar.
So if you don’t need 8 lbs of pasta right now, waiting patiently for grocery store promotions might be your best bet.
But Chinese netizens recommend the RAO’S pasta sauce sold by Costco, which is affordable, not very sour, and not greasy.

6. Holiday decorations
Also, since holiday decorations are displayed so little each year, their quality may not be the number one priority. In this case, a cheaper option may be more affordable.
Many people go to the Dollar Tree to buy holiday decorations.

7. Dog Bed
If you’re looking to buy a comfortable bed for your dog, Costco might not be the best choice. Costco sells a lot of pet beds online, and most cost anywhere from $50 to $100 or more for all but the very small ones.
By comparison, pet owner favorite Chewy sells a variety of dog bed options between $20 and $50.
8. Laundry powder
Believe it or not, laundry detergent does expire. If you open a bottle of cleanser, it’s best to use it up within six months, or you may lose some of its effectiveness. It follows that buying laundry detergent in bulk is not the best financial decision.
If you plan on doing 158 loads of laundry over the next six months, paying $20 for a 237-ounce can of laundry detergent is a real bargain. Otherwise, go to the community supermarket to buy washing powder with appropriate packaging.
9. Deli meat
Except for Costco’s signature grilled chicken and hot dog packages, which are undeniably cost-effective, other cooked meats are not necessarily cheaper than community stores.
10. Toothpaste
For most people, a pack of four or five toothpastes can really last for a year. Toothpaste is one of the products that your local supermarket or grocery store often has on sale.
So instead of stocking your bathroom with lots of toothpaste, keep an eye out for promotions at your local supermarket. And Costco has very few toothpaste options.

11. Shampoo/body wash
These two items are usually cheaper and often discounted at supermarkets like Walmart, so while you don’t have to worry about running out of expiration dates, you can’t usually find a bargain buying these at Costco.
