According to the South China Morning Post (Link), Luke Lin, an analyst at DigiTimes Research in Taiwan, predicts that under this wave of “departure” of the smartphone supply chain,IndiaVietnam will be the biggest beneficiary.
According to the report, India surpassed the United Kingdom last year to become the fifth largest economy in the world. India is expected to account for 25% of total iPhone production by the end of 2023 and 40% by 2025.along withApple supply chainAccelerating the transfer, it is estimated that by 2027, India will produce 45% to 50% of iPhones, with a production capacity comparable to that of China.
Lin Junji said that due toUS-China decouplingcoupled with the uncertainty of China’s epidemic control, in order to spread risks, China may lose its dominant position as an Apple manufacturing center.
China produced as much as 85% of the world’s iPhones last year, which means that China’s production capacity may continue to decline in the future.
Taiwan-based Hon Hai Technology Group, known in China as Foxconn, has been aggressively adding capacity in India. The world’s largest electronics contract manufacturer injected another $500 million into its Indian subsidiary in December last year.
The report also pointed out that within the next five years, Samsung will also stop producing smartphones in China. By 2027, the proportion of Samsung’s assembly in Vietnam will be close to 35% to 40%, and the proportion in India will also reach 40% to 45%.
According to the report, by 2027, the comprehensive manufacturing capacity of smartphone brands other than Apple and Samsung in China will drop by 50%, far below the 70% in 2023.
DigiTimes’ report topped an earlier forecast from JPMorgan. JPMorgan Chase believed at the time that India would assemble 25% of the world’s iPhones by 2025.
