Other states scored well on more specific metrics, allowing them to make the top 10: Louisiana, home to New Orleans, is known for its nightlife; Texas, home to Six Flags, the world’s largest theme park chain, has per capita States with the largest number of amusement parks.
California, Florida, New York and Texas tied for first place in the number of restaurants per capita. In terms of the number of theaters per capita, California and Texas are tied for first place, and New York is third.
WalletHub also took into account factors such as scenic trail accessibility, the number of state fairs and average beer and wine prices to compile the ranking.
Some states on the list, including California, Colorado and Florida, are spending heavily to boost local tourism, Tom Lehman, an economics professor at Indiana Wesleyan University, told WalletHub. He added that while it is difficult to measure the direct impact of state-sponsored events on tourism promotions, such events tend to have some slightly positive effects on the class of out-of-state visitors and state revenue.
