Xu Guang graduated from the Department of Biology, Hangzhou University, and participated in two student movements in 1986 and 1989. In the mid-1990s, he signed a joint request for the release of pro-democracy activists Wang Dan and Wei Jingsheng, who were in prison at the time. In 1998, he participated in the formation of the “China Democracy Party, Fuyang City Preparatory Committee, Zhejiang Province,” and was later sentenced to 5 years in prison for “subversion of state power.” In 2004 year out of prison.
